Choosing Your First Bike

Anything that you shop for can be affected by what is called “branding” – let us explain. If you know a few things about bikes, then chances are you know some of the major high quality cycle manufacturers. Sometimes we will fix our minds on a certain bicycle because of the brand. We need to be a little open-minded as well. There is so much variety on the market that you can overlook something that could be perfect for you.

Examine the Features

You will have better results if you are able to keep your search of a less fractured nature. The locations where you will be riding your bike will always make a huge difference. If you will be staying on fairly uniform ground when you are riding your bike, if should not be necessary for you to get a more extreme bicycle. The build of a standard bicycle is more lightweight than that of an all terrain bike. You will find that everyday bicycles will have a thinner tire mounted on them; instead of the wide tire on a mountain bike. One feature that a touring bike has are the curved handle bars; than enable the rider to lean into their course. If there is a chance you may do some off road biking, you ought to consider the mountain bike because you can do both types of riding with it.

Materials

Don’t forget that a touring bike for the road might come with more material options than the basic steel aluminum. For example, you can find alloys and metals, such as titanium. However, if you are a newbie to this, it is pointless for you to start shelling out a bunch of money. On the other hand, it is inane to spend a great deal of money on the sport if you are new at it. Just so you are aware of it, there are also carbon fiber frames on the market and they have been around for years. These fiber based materials are not as durable and strong as metal frames and it is best if you stayed away from them until you are serious and have a need to use them.

Frame

If your objective is to do serious touring, what you should be looking at are touring frames that will suit your purpose. These frames are different because they are lightweight but still able to carry a load for a good while. You’ll want a quality drive train, though you don’t have to spend a fortune on it. If you’re not familiar with drive trains, it’s worth studying up on a bit if you want to make the right choice. With this type of frame, you should see eyelets in various places such as the seat stays and fork. These threaded holes are for mounting racks in the front and rear and are indicative of touring frames.

Just like with cars, there are hybrid bicycles which could be an option if your tastes are outside the norm. People prefer touring bikes and mountain bikes. However, although they are not as popular, you could try one out. Plus you can always find a cycle that is flexible and be used for both, but they will still be for mainly mountain biking.
